Northmoor-Edison, an EdisonLearning partnership school in Peoria, Illinois, has moved to the head of the class.
The Illinois State Board of Education has recognized Northmoor-Edison with a 2010 Illinois Honor Roll Award. The Honor Roll is divided into three categories: Spotlight Schools, Academic Excellence and Academic Improvement. Northmoor-Edison received the Spotlight Award, which goes to high-poverty, high-performing schools.
To be eligible for the Spotlight School award:
- At least half the students must be from low-income families,
- Schools must have made Adequate Yearly Progress for the last two years, 2009 and 2010, as required by No Child Left Behind.
- At least 60 percent of students must have passed standards in both reading and mathematics in 2010.
- At least 50 percent of students must have passed those same standards in the two preceding years, 2009 and 2008.
Principal Nicole Wood said, “Here at Northmoor we have a world-class mission to give children opportunities that can help nurture them into successful citizens. EdisonLearning has enabled us to do this by working closely with us to develop rich world-arts and technology programs. Being an EdisonLearning charter school means we are cutting-edge. We have all the resources necessary to maximize our children’s learning potential and prepare them for the future.”
This is just another example of the numerous awards Northmoor-Edison has received, which includes being selected as a National Blue Ribbon School. Congratulations to Principal Wood, her education team, and the students and parents of Northmoor-Edison!
