Colorado Commissioner of Education Dwight Jones recently
selected Roosevelt Edison Charter School in Colorado Springs, as
this year’s recipient of the Center for Excellence Award.
Commissioner Jones noted that beginning this year, the Centers of
Excellence Awards will be distributed annually to those schools in
the state that demonstrate the highest rates of student
longitudinal academic growth and enroll a student population that
is at least seventy-five percent at-risk.
In his letter informing the school of their selection, Jones
said, “I commend Roosevelt Edison for being one of the first
recipients of this prestigious honor, and award you $14156. These
funds, pursuant to statute, may be spent or distributed for use
within the school as the principal deems appropriate.”
Congratulations to Dr. Precious Broadnax, Roosevelt principal,
her talented and dedicated staff, her excellent students, and the
families who are so committed to Roosevelt and the education which
their children receive. Dr. Broadnax is widely regarded as one of
our truly outstanding principals, and is the model for urban school
leadership that EdisonLearning espouses. This very well-deserved
honor.
