The tasks of improving achievement and ensuring that students
are prepared for college, work, and life present their own set of
challenges in under-performing schools, requiring a special set of
solutions. EdisonLearning Alliance™ developed its High
School model to address these challenges.
Built on EdisonLearning’s Four
Cornerstones™ of highly effective schools, the
Alliance™ High School model provides high schools with
proven programs for Leadership Development, Teacher Development,
Achievement Planning, and Management, Learning Environment and
Student Management. Schools also benefit from the following
programs that have been specifically designed to address the
particular challenges that struggling high schools face:
Small learning communities
Alliance provides proven models, best practices and
support for creating highly effective small learning communities
that allow for greater personalization of learning for students and
increased collaboration and teamwork for teachers.
EdisonLearning College NEXTTM
Schools receive a state-specific college aspiration kit that
contains all the research, resources, guides, and handouts that
college counselors, school leadership teams, and teachers need to
help students and families learn about and apply to colleges and
for scholarships. Additional resources and on-site support help
schools establish a culture of high expectations that empowers
students by making college an attainable goal for all.
Reading Across the Curriculum Program
Alliance provides teachers with online resources and
the on-site support they need to embed reading strategies and
skills into the content they teach in order to improve student
literacy and comprehension.
Gateway Program
Through the Gateway Program, students who enter the ninth grade
performing below grade level receive the necessary curriculum,
assessments, and support they need to be successful in high school
and beyond.
Dedicated support
Supporting the implementation of the Alliance High
School program is an on-site team comprised of leadership and
curriculum and instruction specialists with particular expertise in
improving student achievement at the secondary level. The
Alliance Achievement Team works hand-in-hand with school
leadership and teachers to help schools move towards their
agreed-upon goals and measure achievement monthly. This local team
also provides ongoing professional development, advisory services,
coaching, and mentoring to teachers and leaders in order to build
site capacity.
