Alliance High School

The tasks of improving achievement and ensuring that students are prepared for college, work, and life present their own set of challenges in under-performing schools, requiring a special set of solutions. EdisonLearning Alliance™ developed its High School model to address these challenges.

Built on EdisonLearning’s Four Cornerstones of highly effective schools, the Alliance™ High School model provides high schools with proven programs for Leadership Development, Teacher Development, Achievement Planning, and Management, Learning Environment and Student Management. Schools also benefit from the following programs that have been specifically designed to address the particular challenges that struggling high schools face:

Small learning communities

Alliance provides proven models, best practices and support for creating highly effective small learning communities that allow for greater personalization of learning for students and increased collaboration and teamwork for teachers.

EdisonLearning College NEXTTM

Schools receive a state-specific college aspiration kit that contains all the research, resources, guides, and handouts that college counselors, school leadership teams, and teachers need to help students and families learn about and apply to colleges and for scholarships. Additional resources and on-site support help schools establish a culture of high expectations that empowers students by making college an attainable goal for all.

Reading Across the Curriculum Program

Alliance provides teachers with online resources and the on-site support they need to embed reading strategies and skills into the content they teach in order to improve student literacy and comprehension.

Gateway Program

Through the Gateway Program, students who enter the ninth grade performing below grade level receive the necessary curriculum, assessments, and support they need to be successful in high school and beyond.

Dedicated support

Supporting the implementation of the Alliance High School program is an on-site team comprised of leadership and curriculum and instruction specialists with particular expertise in improving student achievement at the secondary level. The Alliance Achievement Team works hand-in-hand with school leadership and teachers to help schools move towards their agreed-upon goals and measure achievement monthly. This local team also provides ongoing professional development, advisory services, coaching, and mentoring to teachers and leaders in order to build site capacity.
