Benchmark Assessment System

Assessment informs instruction

EdisonLearning’s commitment to student achievement led to the development of our Benchmark Assessment System, a uniquely powerful part of EdisonLearning Alliance™. This multifaceted system’s alignment to state standards and rich, easy-to-use reporting ensure that schools are equipped to help students succeed.

It also demonstrates EdisonLearning’s commitment to providing teachers and administrators with the best tools available, leveraging technology to deliver important learning data, supporting teachers by providing relevant assessment content, easy administration, automatic scoring, and flexible reports. These reports feature monthly and longitudinal views; strand and skill analysis by class, student, and sub-group; and easy drill-down to individual questions with class response patterns. This incredibly user-friendly system saves time and allows teachers to focus on necessary instructional responses.

Benchmark Assessments are electronic, interim assessments given to students starting in Grade 2 in the academic disciplines of reading and mathematics. They are written to meet individual state standards and to reflect the format and focus of high-stakes state tests.

Each monthly assessment is designed to be administered within a single class period. Tests are automatically scored and results are instantly accessible by teachers and students. The variety of reports provides a powerful and immediate assessment of class and individual student strengths and weaknesses.

Benchmark Assessments advance teaching and learning in several important ways:

  • Teachers receive quick and reliable feedback on how every student is progressing toward mastery of state standards, enabling them to make real-time adjustments as necessary.
  • Access to results helps students set individual learning goals and monitor progress, enabling them to take ownership of their own learning.
  • Administrators benefit from information about strengths and weaknesses of whole classes and grade levels.
  • School leaders and teachers are trained on using and analyzing the data that benchmarks provide. This support ensures that schools get the most out of the system.
