Hands-On Summer Education
Summer Journey is a summer education program designed to enrich students’ learning with hands-on, educational experiences that promote students’ engagement and confidence as life-long learners. Available for grades K-8, the Summer Journey curriculum emphasizes cooperative, project-based learning, cultivating a discovery process in which students pursue their curiosity, think critically, and take initiative in their learning.
Districts love the easy implementation of the program and measurable improvements in achievement.
Students love the hands-on projects, homework-free learning, and incentives to attend.
Parents love the tuition-free education, the positive learning environment, and year-long learning.
Provide the space, we do the rest!
Summer Journey is designed to be comprehensive and easily implemented. Your school or district need only supply instructors and classrooms for the program. EdisonLearning provides everything else: the curriculum, materials, teacher training, and student recruitment. Summer Journey Comes With:
Implementation support from an on-site Regional operations Manager
Manuals for each course so teachers have all the information necessary to deliver lessons with confidence
Professional Development to better equip teachers for the program
All Materials, from basic school supplies to the books and equipment unique to each course
Recruitment Materials, from booklets to DVDs, to peak student interest and ensure high enrollment
Incentives Program to encourage students to attend every day
Online Student Information System for enrolling students, scheduling classes, and taking attendance. (Your district may opt to use its own.)
Pre and post criterion-referenced assessments for grades 3-8 so you can see your students’ progress
All Summer Journey courses are aligned to Missouri Grade Level Expectations, (GLEs). Making Connections in Missouri, a course alignment guide that ties course curricula directly to the Missouri Grade Level Expectations is available so administrators can choose courses based on district goals.
The program is designed to be conducted for 24 days at 7 hours per day for 168 hours. Districts can choose which classes will best serve their student population. During morning sessions, students will choose from four core academic areas including reading, language arts, mathematics, science and/or social studies. During afternoon sessions students participate in three hands-on exploratory Journey courses with embedded academics. Journey classes include Rocketry, Art with an Aptitude, Balloon Adventure, Robotics, Parachute Play and Let’s Have a Ball.
