As we approach a new school year and hope to emerge from many of the disruptions caused by the pandemic, we must acknowledge that many students have experienced persistent trauma, and especially now require support for their social and emotional health. In part one of this two-part interview, Dr. Wendy Oliver speaks with Dr. Kathryn Kennedy, an expert in the field of both trauma and online & blended learning. Topics of discussion include Dr. Kennedy’s perspective on social-emotional learning (SEL), her personal experience with trauma and commitment to supporting others, and some interesting information regarding trauma and prolonged stress and how this affects the mind and body.
